Building a More Inclusive Community
Our founders, born and raised in Haiti, experienced firsthand the challenges of finding a true sense of belonging after moving to Junction City, Kansas. As they sought culturally relevant recreation and meaningful connections, they realized their personal struggles reflected a broader community need for inclusivity. What began as a vision to support fellow Haitians grew into a mission to create a welcoming space for all.
The breakthrough came when they won a local pitch competition, leading to the acquisition of a vacant downtown lot. This pivotal moment inspired the creation of a multicultural center—a platform where diversity is embraced, celebrated, and shared. While our roots are deeply connected to the Haitian experience, our mission extends to everyone. We are dedicated to building a more inclusive community by promoting cultural diversity, providing foreign language education, and offering support services to immigrants and youth from all backgrounds.
At First Thousand Member Club, we believe in celebrating diversity, cultivating cultural understanding, and creating opportunities for all residents to thrive together. Our commitment is to ensure that everyone—Haitians and non-Haitians alike—feels seen, valued, and empowered as part of a stronger, united community.
